Brazilian Delegation Visits CEODE for
Discussion on Spatial Cooperation

29/03/2010

A four-person delegation headed by Dr. Gilberto Camara from the National Institute of Space Research (INPE), Brazil, paid a visit to the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE) recently to discuss further cooperation on space research.

Prof. John van Genderen delivered a report for CEODE on the progress and results of the ABCC Program, more specifically "Comparative Study on Global Environmental Change Using Remote Sensing”, a project involving researchers from Australia, Brazil, China and Canada.

The ABCC Program aims to utilize multi-source, multi-dimensional and multi-temporal remote sensing data to conduct analysis and research on global environmental change through the study of forest carbon, vegetation, glacier, snow and aerosol, etc.

Dr. Camara expressed his wish to “become an active contributor to the ABCC Program and to be able to make important contributions”.

Later in the discussion, the delegates from both parties agreed to conduct more cooperation in space research, including remote sensing and mapping applications, Geo-Informatics, environmental modeling, natural disasters, land cover change, and more importantly global environmental change.

Both sides reached a consensus to establish a Memorandum of Understanding between China and Brazil soon.

Prof. GUO Huadong, director-general of CEODE, received the delegation along with other researchers of CEODE.
